Hear Me

Things to include: “Sometimes I feel nothing at all”, peanut butter, a fish named Sam
Rating: R

Author’s Notes: I’ve been a short story fan for my entire life and took this opportunity to write one myself. It’s my first Hanson one, and I took on a different sort of format, giving myself a further challenge. I decided to set the story in four very short parts, providing four scenes and just trying something different. The subject matter of this story is dark, yes, and something that I didn’t intend when I first chose this theme, but it’s where it ended up.
Part One: Red Flags
Part Two: Comfort Food
Part Three: Trapped
Part Four: Starting Back
Wow, I really loved this. I loved the way you went through all of the emotions and awkwardness of the situation. It felt very real and very honest. I also loved the line “The… plant’s name is Sam?” That made me laugh, and it was good to have a bit of a tension breaker in story dealing with such a serious subject matter.
I hate to see Taylor so broken, but I like the direction that you took this challenge. And you handled the awkwardness and the feelings of sadness and “why didn’t I notice” and “what if he’d succeeded” well. Great stuff. =)
This story is amazing!!
I love the emotion, it was so real…..good job! It is now one of my fave short stories!
This was really great. It nice to see a story that doesn’t involve love. While those stories are great… it’s nice to have a little break.
It’s a very difficult subject and I like how you describe everything they were going through (how awkward they were and didn’t know what to say) and the relationship they have. They knew each other for so long but it was still hard. You did a great job!
Aww, I absolutely loved the last paragraph. The way you approached the topic was done so well. Sometimes I think short stories are a hard thing to write, but you did amazing with this. In such a short time, I felt like I really knew Ada and Taylor.
